This Privacy Policy describes how DICOM Viewer (“the App”), developed by Gunasekhar Athuluri (“we”, “us”, or “the Developer”), handles information when an App user uses the App on Google Play.
1. Information We Collect
The App does not collect personally identifiable information such as an App user’s name, email address, phone number, or location. We do not sell or share an App user’s data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
DICOM files an App user opens or manages stay on the App user’s device. File contents are not uploaded to our servers or sent over the internet for viewing or storage.
2. Permissions
Storage / files: The App may request access to device storage so the App user can upload and open DICOM files from local storage. This access is used only to read or manage files the App user chooses.
Internet: The App may use an internet connection to check for App version updates. It is not used to upload an App user’s DICOM files or personal data.
3. Local Data and User Control
All App-related data is saved locally on the App user’s device. Nothing is shared with the internet for cloud storage or remote processing by us.
The App user controls adding, editing, and deleting files and related App data on the device. Uninstalling the App typically removes App-stored data, subject to the App user’s device and operating system.
4. Data Deletion
Data deletion is completely controlled by the App user. The App user can remove DICOM files and related App data from the device at any time using the App’s delete options or by deleting files from device storage. We cannot delete data from the App user’s device remotely because we do not store the App user’s files on our servers.
5. Medical Disclaimer
The App is a general-purpose DICOM file viewer and is not a certified medical device. It may be unable to open some older, incomplete, or invalid formats, and may display images incorrectly in some cases.
The App user is solely responsible for how any image or information shown in the App is interpreted. We are not liable for any misunderstanding, misreading, clinical decision, diagnosis, treatment, or other outcome based on viewed DICOM content.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer is not responsible for, and shall not be liable for, any loss, damage, claim, or consequence arising from use of the App, including without limitation:
- Mishandling, misuse, or unauthorized use of the App or of DICOM files by the App user or any third party;
- Misinterpretation, misunderstanding, or incorrect reading of images, metadata, or other content displayed in the App;
- Software bugs, glitches, crashes, freezes, display errors, or other defects;
- Incomplete, corrupted, unsupported, outdated, or improperly rendered DICOM files or images;
- Loss, corruption, accidental deletion, or unavailability of locally stored App data or DICOM files on the App user’s device;
- Device failure, storage failure, operating system updates, or conflicts with other software;
- Interrupted, delayed, or unavailable App version checks or other internet-related features;
- Any clinical, diagnostic, treatment, financial, legal, or other decision made based on the App;
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
The App is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The App user assumes all risk associated with use of the App and with any locally stored data.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is a medical data (DICOM) viewer and is not intended for use by children. We do not suggest that children can use this resource properly or safely interpret medical images. The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. International Availability
The App is available on Google Play in approximately 177 countries and regions. Because App data remains on the App user’s device and is not collected or stored by us on remote servers, cross-border transfer of App user content by the Developer generally does not occur.
App users outside the United States remain responsible for complying with local privacy, health-data, and medical-device rules that apply to their use of the App in their country or region (including, where applicable, laws such as the EU/UK GDPR).
9. United States Privacy Laws (Including California)
We do not sell personal information and do not collect personal information for profiling, advertising, or analytics. Where U.S. state privacy laws apply—including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA)—many consumer rights related to access, deletion, or opt-out of sale may have limited practical application because we do not hold App user personal information or DICOM files on our servers.
If an App user believes a request under applicable U.S. or California privacy law still applies, the App user may contact us using the details below. We will respond as required by law to the extent we have relevant data under our control.
10. HIPAA and Health Information
The App is a local DICOM viewer and is not offered as a HIPAA-covered service, electronic health record, or medical diagnostic system. We are not acting as a HIPAA covered entity or business associate for App users solely by providing this App.
If an App user (such as a healthcare provider or organization) handles protected health information (PHI), that App user is solely responsible for HIPAA and related compliance, including secure device use, access controls, and any clinical or organizational policies. Opening PHI in the App on a personal or shared device does not create a HIPAA business associate relationship with the Developer.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the App after changes means the App user accepts the updated policy.
12. Contact
If an App user has questions about this Privacy Policy or the App, contact the developer:
